Ads Module User Guide
Welcome to the introductory tutorial for the Bottleweb Ads Module. With the Bottleweb Ads Feature, we are giving you the opportunity to create advertisements on any content that you create. This essentially means that each user will has the chance to profit from their own work, without having to share that profit with Bottleweb. There is no charge for this service.
Before we begin, let's just outline roughly how the process works:
- Choose a third party advertisement provider and create an account (Currently only Adbrite and Google are supported)
- Create the ads that you would like to display on your blog pages
- Log on to Bottleweb.org, click on Configure Ads and fill in the forms to begin
That's it in a nutshell. However, as each advertisement provider does things their own way, there are certain restrictions on where you can place ads, and how those ads are sized. So please, take the time to read this tutorial (and the supplementary guides for your chosen ad provider, listed below), it won't take long!
Getting Started
Before you get started setting up ads on your website, you will need an account with at least one ad provider and set up some ads. It is very important that you set up your ads according to the specifications of the Ads module, so please take the time to set up your ads according to our specifications. Bottleweb.org is a new and growing project, so this list is likely to increase in the coming months. To newcomers we generally recommend Adbrite, as the application process is more straightforward.
Once you have an account with at least one of these providers you are ready to set up your ads. First log into your Bottleweb account, then click on Configure Ads, select an Advertisement provider and click Update. Below you should now see some text fields where you can enter your Client ID for the Advertiser you selected (If you do not know how to find this, please refer to the tutorials above for your selected provider). Fill in your Client IDs for the provider that you chose, like in the image below:
Adding zones
You can now begin to select some "Zones" where you would like to see your ads displayed. The zones are shown below with diagram of where on the page they will appear. Please note that their exact location and size may vary depending on the provider, and these diagrams are merely a guide (you can always play around with different settings until you find something you like):

Once you have decided where you would like to place your individual ads, expand one of the zone configuration windows by clicking on the menu title (e.g. "left ad zone configuration") and enable the ad zone by clicking the tickbox titled enable left ad zone. Now enter your Ad ID for this zone into the text field. To find your Ad ID please refer to the tutorials on setting up your ad providers (links are at the beginning of the tutorial).
